For the Italian Renaissance lover, this massive oil painting (2’ x 5’ feet long!), is my reinterpretation, of a unique classical painting by Sandro Botticelii, "Mars and Venus".

Painted in 2008, as part of my illustration training with Professor Phyllis Purves Smith, at “The University of the Arts”, the narrative of this painting spoke to me, for it’s uniqueness and focus on the Goddess, “Venus”.

*This painting was created in the monochromatic “grisaille” technique, and holds an underpainting, beneath the layers of color.
